The Pinewood Derby was today, and the car my son and I made won 1st place. Will post pics soon. I had no idea we would do so well. This is the first pinewood derby car I've ever made (except as a child, my step-dad made them for me back then and they all sucked).
District here we come!

lol not a damn one of those kids did a thing to those cars. Some of them looked bad ass. Ours was very simple.

My dad actually let me build most of the cars I did in cub scouts. I never won, but at least I knew I was one of the only people whose dad wasn't a crazy control freak.
Still I would love to be able to do a pinewood derby now without looking like a freak, so I BETTER HAVE A DAMN BOY WOMAN! |

Congrats, Lil Smoke!
A guy at work won his derby last year (haven't heard how he did this year yet). He did it by spending hours and hours studying cars at the pinewood derby store at the Mall of America. Yea, that mall has everything.

I would have beat the bastard i raced against like 7 years ago, but he used lubricant when we were all under the impression it wasn't allowed. I still hold a grudge  He was a ginger too!

Is it the race with the wooden slant thing you put your cars on, cause I remember doing that in cubs as well. My dad did the car cutting and crap and I did the painting
But in highschool in woodworking we made these cars in class that had these little Co2 cartridges in the back of the car that when you poke it with a point it shoots across the room on a line above them so they go in a straight line and not all over the place. My cartridge on the back was like all the way to the left cause I thought it would be funny and it was cause my car shot to the right like at 1/4 of the way and hit the other car and I won HAHAHAHA I was actually trying to lose but damn that was fun 
Woodworking best class in school woo besides Court Sports, or physical education.
BTW do you win anything in those races or is it all for fun? Cause if you did ,what did you win? :O

Just a couple of trophies and certificates. It was fun.
District is coming up next month. I doubt our car will place very high, because we don't really know what we're doing. The rules say you can use dry lubricants such as graphite, so I think I'll pick some up to try to get an edge. But I think everyone else there will already have done all that.
We'll see how it goes.
