I know, I know, it falls under the category of barely playable when you run it on the lowest setting...

Got GTA4 for Christmas, and damn...

I've got a problem similar to Welder's; my 7950 GT just doesn't seem to cut it. With these changes to the path, the game does in fact boot up, but I can't see any farther away than 15 feet. I drove Roman's car straight into the building in front of me.

That commercial is sadly appropriate:
This makes me want to cry.

I have a question.

QUESTION!!!

If one were going to be looking at graphics cards and processors so they would be able to run this game with some sort of playability, what would be recommended?

1) cheapskate- low settings, decent fps
2) player- medium settings, playable fps
3) dreamsicle- highest possible settings, highest fps

What cards and processors would fit these categories? And how much do they cost?

1) At least mid range dual-core, ATI 3600 series and up NVIDIA 8600 and up ~ $300
2) amd tri-core, high end dual core, ATI 4800 + Nvidia 9600 + ~ $450
3) OCed quads (preferably i7), ATI crossfire 4800s / 4870x2, Nvidia sli gtx 200s + ~ $600+

my guess

Actually Tasty, that me be a processor problem. I only have a 7900 and I replace my proc, RAM and MoBo and it works fine now.

Its like coming home for the first time to meet your real family after finding out your adopted. You feel like you fit in, but everybody still scares the bejezuz out of ya.

Hmm, maybe there's hope; my mobo is good but I definitely need moar ram.
My processor fails pretty hard too.

To bad I have pretty much no money for upgrades.
This kinda pisses me off that the game requires so much.
