Is it safe to leave a laptop in a car under the sun? I live in Miami so it's always summer. I'd be leaving it under a seat and not in direct sunlight.

Well think of it this way... your laptop gets DAMN hot when it's operating... So unless it gets like 120 degrees in the car or something, should be ok.

But not a good idea to leave an expensive laptop in a car though due to possible theft Razz

I think the above picture of a case I left in my truck in august with the windows up will answer this plenty well. . .

A what car?

A) Never lock or leave ANYTHING in your car if you have a risk of somebody wanting to steal something inside. The broken window you'll have to replace is the biggest pain out of anything.

B) What Bulk showed

Yes I didn't want you guys concentrating on the fact that it could get stolen. It'd be out of visible range anyway.

I think it gets hotter than 120 degrees in a car in summer.

No, this is a hat car:

I don't see any reason why that would hurt the laptop. The LCD might look funky until it cools down, so you may not want to turn it on right away. Direct sunlight might be a bad thing (as evidenced by the CD case above).

The internal components heat up to at least that temp during normal operation, so I think you're ok. Let it cool off a bit prior to use.

You have a stereo, right? It works doesn't it?

they're also designed to handle the heat, espically in the winter when the heater is cranked and radient heat from the heater box is soaking up the dash making it extreamly hot.

Well, never leave anything like that in direct sunlight in a car. You can have any electronics in a car, as long as the sun doesn't beam it's rays directly onto it through the glass. putting a backpack, jacket or sweater overtop (the lighter the better) and it will be just fine. Plus it hides whats under it.... ;o)

Know this is old but did anyone think about the battery. Those things arn't designed for extensive heat for long periods of time, could damage the battery life.
